Fall Journaling

The Journal Group meets tomorrow, the 14th, at 7pm.
  • When the colors of autumn are in full splendor, do you notice an electrifying feeling in the air? Do the colors saturating the atmosphere have an impact on your mood or outlook? If so, how would you  describe it?
  •  Write about one of the five senses (related to your autumn experience):
    • The smells of autumn
    • The sights of autumn
    •  The sounds of autumn
    • The touch of autumn
    • The tastes of autumn

  •  What is your favorite fall memory? Write about it.  Be sure to tell who it involved, what happened, when it happened, where it occurred, and why it is a favorite memory?
  • What are three experiences that you enjoy most about the fall season? Is it the colors? Cooler  temperatures? Kids going back to school? Pick three random things and write about them. If that gets you going and you want to write about more, have at it.
  • What is your favorite fall holiday?  Why?  How does your family celebrate this holiday?
  • What is your favorite fall activity?  Why?
  • What is your favorite food made from apples?

This is a drop-in group that welcomes all new members... no commitment, but we think you'll be addicted to journaling! Call Liza for more information, 208.612.8462

August Journal Group

Please note that there's slight change in the Journal Group meeting in August--it will be on THURSDAY the 13th, rather than on Wednesday.

Here are some pages I made quickly to show you what we'll be working on during our group time on the 13th:

And sticking with the theme of HOME, here's some prompts to get your thoughts "homeward" bound...

  • Make a list of 20 things you love about your home.
  • When did you move into your home? What kind of day was it when you moved in?
  • When was it built, what style of home is it?
  • Who do you share your home with?
  • Do you entertain in your home... or prefer to have other people host parties?
  • What projects are waiting to get done in your home?
  • What are your dream projects for your home? (there's no budget constraints when you're dreaming)
  • What is the one home task you must do every night before you can fall asleep?
  • Do you know your neighbors? If you do, write about your favorites... and/or your least favorites.
  • What memories do you have of your childhood home?
  • What traditions did you bring from your childhood home into your home?
  • Describe your childhood bedroom and compare it to your current bedroom... what are the similarities and differences?
  • If money was no object, where would your home be? Or what style of architecture would it be? Or...
  • Do you have a favorite quote about HOMES? Add it (or all of them) to your journal pages.

If you haven't been to our journal groups, we are excited to offer you:
  • materials and guidance to making your own journal.
  • monthly journal prompts via this blog and on Facebook to get you moved to write and/or create in your journals.
  • monthly meetings with time to write/create and share as desired... sharing is optional :)

journal group meets April 8 @7pm

At journal group on April 8, we will focus on the HERE AND NOW… so I ask you:

What's happening NOW?
1. write one word over and over... fill up the page with this word--except for two places on the page. in one space, write the definition; and the in the other space, write why you chose that word for this page.

2. what was the absolute best thing you did today?

3. what about today totally sucked?

4. look down at your feet… what’s on them, why, what do you think about what you see down there?

5. find a picture of yourself and glue it in your journal, and write about the picture--where were you, why were you there, who was with you, how were you feeling at the time, and how do you feel about this picture now.

6. where have you lived before making your home in Idaho Falls? which was your favorite place--why? which was your least favorite place--why? And what lead you to where you are living now?

7. what is in your purse/wallet? list everything that is in there... and any thoughts you have about it

8. drizzle a little of whatever you're eating and/or drinking on a new page... write about it.

9. look outside and describe what “today” looks like out of your window.

10. think about all of the stuff you know now… what would you say to your 16 year old self, if you could get a letter to her/him?

11. turn on your favorite music, set a timer for 20 minutes, and fill a page in your journal with whatever, however you’re inspired.

12. journal about what you ate, where you went and who you went with for lunch today.

13. what book are you reading? why did you choose it? where did you get the book? are you enjoying it? how would you describe it to someone else?

14. today you were given $1,000, 000 and instructions to spend it in 30 days… what would you do with all of the money?

15. stop what you’re doing at 8:00pm today, and journal about it.

16. using the day of the week in which you're writing (i.e., Monday) write something that happened to you that using the letters in the day (i.e., M O N D A Y) as the first letter of the word you're journaling about. For example:

· M= Mornings are usually rough, but today was especially rough because...

· O= Oatmeal was what I had for breakfast. And today, it was really good...

· N= No one else was a awake when I got up, and it was peaceful this morning...

· D= Dogs are always happy to see you. This morning...

· A= Answering a question with a vague answer kind of makes me crazy...

· Y= You never know who you will see during the day, and how it will effect your mindset. Today I saw...

Journal group is open to all writers and artists... we hope you'll come and join our group!

Teen Tech Month

Nationally libraries celebrate Teen Tech WEEK in March... but we've got so much planned, we couldn't pack it into just one week!!

We have cooked up a super-fun bingo card for Teen Tech Month that introduces teens to new technology as well as using the technology that they already use and love. Teens can win a basket of goodies just for playing bingo with us.

We have also mashed Teen Tech Month and Wednesday Night Events to offer teens and adults some fun programming this month:
  • March 4 - Game Night... Cribbage! We look forward to introducing the game to novices as well as to offer some "friendly" competition for experienced players.
  • March 11 - Journal Group... last month we wrote about travel, and this month the prompts are all about Spring! If you haven't come before, you're welcome to come with your journal, or make a new one to get started on this journey of journaling.
  • March 16, 17, and 18 - Vietnam Remembered... This 3-night reading-and-discussion program commemorates the 50th anniversary of the war. Books are available (but limited) at the Library.
  • March 18 - Crafter-evening... An Eleanor and Park-inspired cassette tape mini journal. Please register for this event at the 3rd floor (208.612.8462 or via email jhentzen@ifpl.org).
  • March 25 - Spring Break Crafternoon... Low-Tech bookmarks. Please register for this event at the 3rd floor (208.612.8462 or via email jhentzen@ifpl.org).
  • March 25 - IFPL Book Club, Chapter 2... The group is discussing A Sand County Almanac. Contact Jenniffer if you're interested in joining the group.
  • March 26 - Skype with YA author Robison Wells
Most programs begin at 7pm, except for March 25 Crafternoon that begins at 2pm.

See you in the Library!
